The Hazards of Love by Woman-King The Hazards of Love by Woman-King
Something again so soon? What is going on? oh it's half-assed and super rushed that's why.

A little piece of fanart for The Decemberists' amazing rock opera The Hazards of Love. It's such a captivating story with tons of angst and wank and general sadness and we all know how much I love that. So here's Margaret and William in the Annan River declaring themselves married right before they drown.

If you haven't listened to it, I highly recommend it! It's a beautifully story with gorgeous music and an obvious root in folk-lore and mythology, which is always cool.

You can listen to the song this is based off of here: [link]

Oh man oh man, do it! It's positively beautiful. And way more rock-ish than their usual stuff, which is pretty cool.
If you want, the entire thing is on youtube in this playlist: [link]

Ooh! I liike. Hazards of Love fanart is always welcome. I think I'd like to do some of the Rake and Margaret when I grow up and become a productive artist. I love all the inspiration this album has.

Ooh! I'm very glad you know Hazards. I was going to recommend it to you! It definitely has a lot to lend inspiration.

Margaret and the Rake art would be fantastic to see from you. How are you doing with your art, by the way? I can't wait until you feel ready to post things again. (:

Yesssss. I can't even quite remember how I go into Hazards. I might've stumbled across is when I was searching for music on Amazon. I love rock opera ideas, so it was right up my alley~!

I've actually been doing a lot more sketching than usual lately! I've almost finished both sketchbooks I currently have with me. I think maybe once I finish them I'll arrange some sketch dumps and then start forcing myself to work on finished, photoshopped pieces. I need to get over my fear of sucking at digital painting/color. I still feel my stuff isn't quite where I want it to be, but I think I'd love to get back into critiquing and such! I'm actually trying to start a sketchblog on Tumblr. :D

Rock operas are fantastic! And a rock opera with basis in folk-lore and Old English ballads, how is that not an amazing combination?

That's great to hear! You're definitely doing better than me! So props to you. I would love to see some sketch dumps, that would be great. I love sketch dumps.
Even if you don't post your digital colours, it's great to work on them. And never be afraid of not being happy with something! If you never try, you'll never have the chance to be happy with it. So just keep plugging away and one day you'll be a master! For sure.

Sketch blog! Awesome! That's excellent.

Yesss. Folklore is always welcome.

Nahhhh, I still have to challenge myself a bit more. You at least know a lot about photoshop graphics. I just sketch bits and pieces here and there and it adds up! I think I've learned some for sure though, since I've started making my sketching more regular. ;)
I think you're right though--better to put up with disappointments and learn from them than to be idle. I'm going to start digital colouring once I get a new tablet and computer because right now this macbook I have is too loaded with stuff to work consistently for a long time on.

I should really start scanning someday. But I is too lazyyy.
